Insurance Information & Advice
We advise you to ensure adequate insurance cover for your jewellery and watches against all risks including but not limited to, accidental damage and loss. This is over and above your statutory rights for newly purchased items, as we will not accept liability for accidental damage. In the unfortunate event of a claim being necessary many insurance companies will attempt to introduce settlement by voucher or replace your jewellery through third party suppliers. Please be advised, according to the Insurance Ombudsman, you are not obliged to accept these options; you may stipulate you wish to return to your original supplier or in handmade specialist cases, the original maker. We would be pleased to advise you if required. We strongly recommend keeping your insurance values up to date.
Customer verification
Walter Bull and Son are required by law to verify your identity prior to a transaction being carried out as part of anti money laundering controls. You may be required to provide evidence of your identity and we will keep copies of any documentary evidence presented together with any transactions to comply with our legal obligations.
Repairs
a) Warranty
Items trusted to Walter Bull & Son are always treated with the utmost care in our specialised workshops. Any repair carried out is guaranteed for 12 months from the date of the repair. The guarantee covers the materials used, spare components and any spare parts plus labour used in the repair. It is independent of any guarantee with the purchase of the item itself. Our guarantee does not cover damage in case of subsequent accident or abusive use (shock, dent etc.) or exceptional circumstances. For items not purchased from Walter Bull we cannot accept responsibility for stone setting, materials or workmanship subsequent to repairs carried out, unless intrinsically and directly being part of the repair itself. This does not affect your statutory rights.
b) Watch Batteries
We cannot be responsible for the functioning of watches upon replacement of the battery unless fully serviced at the same time.
c) Estimates
In certain cases repairs may be subject to an administration fee if, after estimate, the repair is not progressed and is returned undone.
d) Repairs & Our Goldsmith
Whilst we have a goldsmith on site, at our discretion, certain repairs may be sent to our workshops via Royal Mail Special Delivery.
e) Uncollected Repairs Procedure
In accordance with the National Association of Jewellers (NAJ) Code of Practice, Walter Bull & Son follows a procedure that ensures we attempt to have completed and uncollected repairs returned to our clients.
Every January, we take full stock of all our uncollected repairs. Items that have been uncollected for a period of 12 months or more will be submitted to our Uncollected Repairs Procedure.
The procedure is as follows:
- Clients will be informed (via written word) that their item must be collected ASAP. Account balance must be settled prior to collection. Clients have 12 months to collect their item.
- If the item is not collected within the 12-month period, then the client will be informed of our Intent to Sell – meaning their items may be sold to recoup costs. This period lasts 6 months and is the final chance for items to be collected.
- At the end of this 6 months, items left in our possession may be sold. If the items are sold with a profit beyond what is needed to recoup costs – then clients have the right to request any profit from the sale. This is applicable for up to 6 years.
